Brethren will meet at Markethill Orange Hall at 2.45 pm to parade through the town to the Tandragee road venue.

Pipe Band Tattoo

Tue July 8th at 7.30pm

Pipe Bands and Drum Majors from across the County put on an evening of music and demonstration of skill, culminating in a mass band, which will thoroughly entertain

'Eleventh Night' Community Festival

Fri July 11th from 7.30pm
Demonstration Field

Enjoy an evening of high energy entertainment, starting with the Fancy Dress Parade leaving the Square in the town at 7.30pm to the main field. This will be followed by a free open-air concert, featuring Stonewall and Cup O’Joe. Also in the arenas will be Highland games, Living History players and demonstrations, children’s entertainment and a balloon launch. Rounding off the evening, a fireworks display, is sure to delight all ages.

The Twelfth

Markethill District LOL No. 10 plays host to the annual Battle of the Boyne commemorations. Awarded Flagship status by the Grand Lodge of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the day will be one to remember as 155 Lodges, 80 & Bands and 60 Lambeg Drums from across County Armagh come together in Markethill in what will be the biggest event in the district this year.

Travel & Visitor Information

In order to provide a safe and enjoyable visitor experience, Markethill District L.O.L in conjunction with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, ask that all Visitors and participants attending the Twelfth Anniversary celebrations in Markethill, take on board the following advice and information.

  • Allow plenty of time for your journey to the event; delays on all approach roads to Markethill can be expected and route diversions will be in place between 9.00am-1.00pm and 3.00pm-5.30pm, as outward and return procession are underway throughout the Town. Motorists must follow the advice and direction of PSNI Officers on the ground. Road signage is in place, providing key information for routes and car parking.
  • Adequate Car Parking will be available throughout the day, with parking on the Mullabrack Road from Hamiltonsbawn, Tandragee Road beside Markethill Free Presbyterian Church, Markethill Primary School Sports Field in the Town and several on Parr’s Lane on the approach to the Main Demonstration Field from the Newry – Armagh Road. Limited Disabled Car Parking will be available in the Town, on production of Official District Car Pass. There will be limited car parking on the Main Street and lower end of Mowhan Road, in order to promote a pedestrian friendly zone.
  • Please note: there will be parking restrictions in place from Friday evening 11th July to Saturday 12th; these will be clearly identified and enforced by mobile PSNI units.
  • All participants in the procession are asked to adhere to instructions of District Marshalls, who will be visibly identified.
  •  Members of the Public are asked to adhere to all local bye laws enforced in Markethill and in particular to the prohibition of alcohol consumption on the street. This will be strictly monitored by the PSNI. No alcohol is permitted in the Demonstration Field.
  • Visitor information will be available on the day by a dedicated team of Visitor Hosts and from any District Marshall.
  • First-aid and toilet provision will be available at various locations along the parade route and clearly identified.

Parade Route, Field & Car Parks

Parade Route

The parade route for the 12th July Demonstration starts at the old Gosford Hotel site at the top of the town.

The procession moves down the main street to the War Memorial, where it turns left down Newry Street. At the bottom of Newry Street, the procession turns and proceeds back towards the War Memorial, before turning left on to the Mowhan Road.

Once on the Mowhan road, the parade proceeds up the hill passing both the Primary School and High School before entering the Demonstration Field beside Parr's Lane.

On the return journey, the parade follows a reverse route, terminating at the old Gosford Hotel site.

Parking & Road Closure

Ample parking is available in official car parks accessible from the Tandragee road, Mowhan road, Parr's Lane, Mullabrack Road and also Markethill Primary School & High School. (see map)

Disabled parking and toilet facilities are available at the bottom of the Mowhan road from JD Hunter's to Markethill Primary School.

 The town centre, Gosford Road (bypass) and Mowhan roads will close from 9.15am. Spectators are advised that if you are using car parks along these routes, you must be in place before the roads close. For pedestrian safety, it is advised that cars parked within the parade route should remain in place until all routes reopen at 6.00pm. Main St. Markethill will be closed from 8.20am.

Vehicles in the Procession

All cars in the procession must have a pass issued by Markethill District. Drum vehicles will not take part in the procession, but may temporarily park at the Newry St/Gosford Rd junction to service lodges as they pass, and may access the demo field area via Parr's Lane.

Twelfth Book 2014


The souvenir book for the Twelfth 2014 is available for purchase from every lodge in Co. Armagh, in Markethill from Hardlight Multimedia, and from Markethill District directly, at events listed in the programme.

This years' book features an article from each of the 12 lodges in the district, an article on the Great War, information from our featured charity and much more.



Mullabrack lodge have produced a limited edition of 300 Boyne Anniversary Jewels to commemorate the 324th Boyne Anniversary celebrations being held in Markethill.

The centre-piece of the Jewel is the Earl of Gosford’s family coat of arms and the colours featured on the ribbon are taken from the Acheson clan tartan.
